Asus ROG 5
Although the Asus ROG Phone 5 may be the best PS799 phone for entertainment, it is not for everyone. Let’s find out our verdict.

Our review
The ROG Phone 5 lacks features such as wireless charging and a sleek design, so it is not for everyone. However, you should consider using it only as a gaming phone.
Pros

- Smooth, immersive wide screen.
- Premium design.
Cons
- Not best-in-class camera.
- A bulky, heavy body is too large for many.
- No wireless charging.
We know that not everyone is looking for a gaming smartphone. So when we looked at the ROG Phone 5 we knew we would be reviewing a special phone for gamers. We ended up with a multimedia powerhouse.
The screen is large, bright, and punchy. It also has the best speakers in their class, which makes for a loud, clear sound that’s perfect for music and movies. What’s the Asus ROG phone 5?
ROG Phone 5 is a gaming phone. We are not suggesting that the ROG Phone 5 is not a gaming phone. It’s got the RGB pulsing lights at the back and an angry, outrageous styling. It’s quite a bit of kit. It can also be outfitted with a ton of accessories that will make it stand out from other gaming phones.
After a few weeks, the most surprising thing about the phone was its ability to play movies and music with its high-quality speakers and screen. It has a large battery and good performance, which is a must for gamers. However, the secondary cameras (the macro and ultra-wide) could use some improvement.
The ROG Phone 5 is a phone that combines all of these features to make it a great phone for gamers, as well as a phone that can be used by music fans and boxset binge-watchers. The phone also features a headphone jack, which will delight audiophiles.
The ROG Phone 5 lacks features such as wireless charging and a sleek design. However, it is not for everyone.

Is the Asus ROG phone 5 a good value?
The Asus ROG Phone 5 is a great deal if you are looking for brute power. The same processor is found in the OnePlus 9 Pro or OPPO Locat X3. It also has a smoother display due to the higher refresh rate. You’ll find it hard to argue with the price-to power ratio, which is significantly lower than both of these phones.
The ROG Phone 5’s camera is where it falls short. It doesn’t have optical image stabilisation like other phones. This helps to reduce blurred photos when your hand isn’t very steady. Also, the phone lacks a telephoto camera or a true zoom. The 64MP high-pixel count camera can take some amazing photos but it isn’t as versatile and affordable as the OnePlus 9.
PS799 is a great option if you are looking for a top-quality camera phone. There are phones such as the iPhone 12, Mini and the much more affordable Google Pixel 5 that outperform Asus’s ROG Phone 5. The ROG Phone 5 is a great choice if you’re happy with a decent camera, but not great, and prioritize Disney+, Netflix in bed, and gaming.
Asus ROG Phone 5 features
It is easier to talk about the ROG Phone 5’s shortcomings than it is about its strengths. This phone is an entertainment phone with all-round capabilities that will blow you away with its top-tier power, powerful sound, and a smooth, vibrant screen.
It’s an impressive piece of kit, if you look around. It’s partly due to the 6.78-inch FullHD resolution display and Samsung’s AMOLED technology that produces a vibrant, saturated image on-screen. The phone’s small size is due to its two USB-C ports. This allows you to charge your phone and play in either landscape or portrait orientations. There’s also the large 6000mAh battery. This battery is larger than other batteries, with the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s highest-end battery at 3700mAh.
Android 11 is supported by many apps and games. Asus ROG Phone 5 has a customized interface that includes animations and flourishes to assist gamers. With the smooth 144Hz refresh rate and the powerful phone, the interface is fluid. The phone has 256GB of storage, which is enough to store hundreds of movies or tens of millions of songs. 5G technology is also available on the ROG Phone 5, which allows for seamless streaming, even without a WiFi connection.

You can get a clip-on fan and an optional gamepad if you are a gamer looking to upgrade your smartphone. Although it might seem like a lot of work to buy a clip-on fan, smartphones are rapidly becoming portable gaming consoles. Smartphones can be downloaded free games and 3D graphics. The ROG Phone 5 was connected to a TV and we felt as if we were playing Trials of Mana by Square Enix. The power that comes with smartphones can also bring great heat. We have both criticized the heat management of the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra, Xiaomi Mi11 Ultra in our reviews. This smartphone is great at managing heat, thanks to the fan. It can be used in hand or connected to a large screen and stays cool like a cucumber.
Asus ROG phone 5 battery
We’ve never seen a smartphone with a larger battery than the ROG Phone 5. The ROG Phone 5’s battery is over twice the size of the 2815mAh iPhone 12. It’s huge on paper so we expected it to last a few days. But, it only lasted one day. It’s still quite good, even by today’s standards. It produced similar results to the Samsung Galaxy S21 UHT0_.
You can dial down the screen’s smoothness from 144Hz to 60Hz easily in the display settings. Then, turn off the phone’s X-mode (X-mode increases the processing power for gaming and is turned in the Notifications tray), and the battery life will immediately improve.
Ultra Durable Mode is a setting that allows you to save even more battery from the ROG phone 5. The phone’s 5G optimisations are automatically controlled by it. It slows down the power used to increase internet speeds and turns off Dual-band WiFi. This feature simultaneously connects to WiFi networks to improve your connection. It also reduces screen refresh rate and overall performance. You could get three days out of the ROG Phone 5 if you are a light smartphone user with Ultra Durable mode.
It charges fast with 65W charging. The phone can charge up to 70% in 30 minutes, and 100% in one hour. Although it may not be as fast or as the OnePlus 9 Pro phones, the ROG Phone 5’s large battery (6000mAh vs 4500 on the OnePlus 9 Pro) still offers great speed and significantly beats the iPhone 12 Pro Max in terms of charging time.
Asus ROG Phone 5 camera

The ROG Phone 5 also has two cameras like the Google Pixel 5. One is the main camera, and the other is an ultra-wide angle alternative. This gets more detail, but with lower quality. A macro camera is also available. It’s not a great performer and, frankly, I don’t know what to say.
Although the main camera has a 64MP resolution, it uses a technique called Pixel Binding to automatically take 16MP photos. The main camera looks great in both daylight and low-light conditions when paired with Asus’s smart cam software. Details are clear, colours pop well, and dark and lighter areas of a photograph feature tonal nuance. Even though the ROG Phone 5 is not as good at night than phones like the iPhone 12 Pro and Pixel 5, it’s still a strong performer.
Although the phone’s ultra-wide angle camera is decent, it is not exceptional. OnePlus’s 9 Pro does not have autofocus, so you can only take photos from subjects more than a meter away. It’s perfect for landscape and group photos, but it is not ideal for wide-angle selfies. It isn’t as versatile as other secondary cameras on pricier phones, such as the OPO Find X3.
The ROG Phone 5’s front camera has a 24MP resolution. However, its photos may not always be flattering if you love selfies. While it’s great for group shots in bright surroundings, the ROG Phone 5’s front camera tends to favor cool skin tones over warm ones. This results in a dull portrait that is rarely a good one.
Asus ROG Phone 5 design/set-up

Asus highlights the ROG Phone 5’s best features – the screen and those speakers. The speakers are prominently displayed on the front of this phone and shine brightly. The bottom has a USB-C and a headphone port. On the left is the other USB C port. This allows you to charge your phone in either one or both directions. All the ROG Phone buttons are located on the right. The phone’s back has a curved glass screen and an asymmetrical bump for the camera.
You’ll see the Asus ROG logo on the back of the phone when you turn it on. RGB lighting is the hallmark of a real gaming device.
The black version is available in white or black. While it may sport a more aggressive design, the black model we have shows restraint and a simple, dark color scheme. You wouldn’t even know it was a gaming phone if it didn’t have a case. And the futuristic hieroglyphs and red accents on the back are actually more tasteful than other gaming phones.
Asus can customize the user interface to have a traditional Android look or a gaming feel. This allows it to cater to gamers as well as non-gamers. The phone runs Android 11 and offers excellent game and app support. If you are upgrading from an Android phone to the new version, it should be fairly straightforward thanks to Google’s standardised setup process.
The phone’s design has one downside. It doesn’t have IP68 water and dust resistance. This is something that other non-gaming phones at the same price do. The ROG Phone 5 may not be the best option if you are a frequent smartphone dunker.
Our verdict: should you buy the Asus ROG Phone 5?
For pure entertainment, the Asus ROG Phone 5 phone is the best PS799 phone. You can spend hours gaming, watching, or listening with the amazingly smooth 144Hz screen and powerful front-firing speakers.
It is a smartphone that can be used by everyone. It is not. It is large, it doesn’t have wireless charging, and it lacks dust and water resistance.
The ROG Phone 5 has all its cons and pros, but gamers and anyone looking for quality entertainment on their phone can still recommend it. Audiophiles will love it because of the high-quality speakers and the handy headphone jack.
