Ragnarok The End of the Norse Chap.

Let me start by saying that this game is the best I have reviewed in 2022. It is surreal from the beginning, and has the most beautiful environments you’ll ever see in a video game.
God of War (2018) was the most enjoyable title I had ever played. So I was very excited to get the sequel.
It is important to note that I used default settings on the PlayStation 5, which allowed me to play the game at 60 FPS and upscaled 4K visuals. Smoothness won out over the resolution bump after I tried all other configurations. You get the feeling that everything is working as it should and that there is a polished quality to it.
An Immersive Experience
Santa Monica Studio has done it again with the integration of PlayStation’s DualSense controller into the game. Players can feel almost everything about Kratos or Atreus by using haptic feedback.
The controller is an integral part of the experience, from the thundering and rumblings of the weather to individual enemies’ attacks, You will have a great time if you thought riding the boat in God of War was fun. The haptic feedback allows you to feel every wave coming your way in God of War Ragnarok, making it almost therapeutic to ride the boat. Sleds are a new method of traversing the landscape. You can ride your wolves to help you, and you’ll feel the galloping and screeching on the frozen lakes when you stop it.

God of War is all about combat, so there’s a lot of immersion from that area. The only thing I would complain about is the inability to use adaptive triggers. The icing on top would have been adaptive triggers. It is likely that the absence of adaptive triggers was a strategic move to make porting to PC simpler. The experience is amazing, and players will feel every punch and blow from the enemy.
The Leviathan Axe or the Blades of Chaos can be used to cut down enemies. Other ways to get haptic feedback include sprinting through different environments and climbing ledges, chains, or using the new grapple. You feel more immersed in cutscenes and choreographed scenes.
Combat is smoother than ever with many of the same attack styles being transferred to the new game. DualSense controller makes the experience feel more unique. There are many other features to explore in combat, including the runic attacks, using all your weapons and shields to create an individual playstyle, and creating unique playstyles. Atreus’ strength is much greater, which allows him to accomplish impressive feats. Atreus’ strength has made him a more powerful support character than the previous title. This allows players to focus on the more powerful enemies.
The Beautiful Nine Realms
Santa Monica Studios did not leave any stone unturned in the design of God of War Ragnarok’s visuals. They didn’t lie when they said that all realms visited in the previous title had changed dramatically. The entire realm has been covered in snow, and the lake has become ice since Midgard. It almost feels like a new realm.

Fimbulwinter has arrived and most realms have experienced similar, huge transformations. These changes have made the game more exciting and beautiful. Alfhiem’s landscape has changed dramatically, with a desert-covered region that is often ravaged by earthquakes. Niflheim and Muspelheim, as well as Helheim, are almost the same today.
To support the expansion of the game’s scope and store, there are several new realms. Svartalfheim is the first realm, or as Dwarves prefer to call it Nidavellir. Svartalfhiem, the realm of the Dwarves, is where players will see many technological innovations that are far ahead of their time. Svartalfhiem is more tropical, with many geysers scattered throughout the realm. Vanahiem is the realm of Vanir, and it’s one of the most beautiful realms of the game. You can see the amazing flora, fauna, and plants that live there.
Finally, I will not share much information about Asgard. It will be very different to your expectations. When you get to that point, you will see what I mean. These visually appealing elements are complemented by one of the most impressive background scores in a long time to make the game one of the best in-game. These realms are designed and developed to make the players want to explore their depths.
Storytelling: The Art of Storytelling
We all know that God of War Ragnarok has a narrative-driven storyline. Santa Monica Studio’s approach is unique. This game confirms my belief in Santa Monica Studio’s mastery of storytelling in video games. Every character has a great voice actor and the game is filled with emotion and well-written dialogues. It will keep you on your toes.
Each scene and setting has been carefully designed to make the most impact possible on the player. This allows you to form attachments and become engrossed in the many emotions of the characters in the game. This story has a twist that few players will be able predict, and it leads to a satisfying conclusion that everyone was waiting for.
It is also a great story progression. As the story develops, players will begin to understand Ragnarok’s true meaning and how it came to be. You will find yourself siding with Kratos or Atreus in some of their interactions. This will force you to think about their perspectives and put yourself in their shoes.
Side missions are the only way to discover all of the lore and backstory in the game. You will be motivated to complete each quest in the game’s rich story and setting. To ensure I didn’t miss any of the universe’s treasures, I had to constantly switch between main and side missions during my playtime.
Kratos and The Lot
God of War: Ragnarok has a lot to offer in terms of characters. The game offers a wide range of people with different perspectives and goals. As he shares his traumatizing past, Kratos has shown a lot of growth and is now more connected with his empathy side. Atreus, on the other side, is a developing individual who wants to explore different possibilities.
The Aesir gods are the highest echelon in Norse Mythology, including Odin, Thor, and others. Odin is not the MCU All-Father we are used too. He is extremely goal driven and will do anything to make his ideas come to pass. Thor is a brute who likes to smash things around but also deals with trauma. Atreus is similar to Thor in more than one way.

Cindri and Brock are just as happy-go lucky as ever, and players will enjoy the banter between them. The story’s second great addition is the transformation of Cindri and Brock into traveling companions. These companions accompany Kratos, Atreus on specific journeys, and their interactions are some the most memorable in the game. Kratos also meets the God of War in Norse Mythology, Tyr. He is another character that might surprise players.
Conclusion
God of War: Ragnarok easily wins my vote as the Game of the Year for 2022 (sofar). It is the best-in-class game in terms of story, gameplay, and visuals, and will be a model for future games. This title is guaranteed to deliver the best experience, and players will feel completely immersed from beginning to end. God of War: Ragnarok is a must-have for any PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 owners. This adventure sets a new standard for narrative-driven video games in the industry.
