Lucid Sound LS50X
Although it’s not the most affordable option, the LucidSound headset LS50X is still a great choice.
Our review
The LucidSound LS50X has some impressive features and excellent audio. It is well worth recommending to anyone who can afford it.
Pros
- Excellent audio & comfort
- Featuring a lot of features
Cons
- The Control system is a little fiddly
- PlayStation cannot be connected wirelessly
LucidSound LS50X gaming headphones are a well-respected product in the world of gamer-friendly headphones. It has won numerous awards and received a lot of positive reviews. But does it live up to its hype?
The box boasts a large claim and a slogan in all capitals that reads like this: “BUILT for GAMING.” Designed for life. With these words, it is clear that the LS50X headset was created to be a headset gamers can use in all aspects of their lives.
These are the main problems with other gaming headsets. While most of them are great for gaming at home, some headsets can be too jarring and loud to be worn outside. For example, the EPOS we recently reviewed fell prey to this trap.
How does the LucidSound LS50X stack up against its bold claims? Does it truly offer a rare gaming headset you’d be happy to wear on the train? RadioTimes.com received an LS50X to review. You can read our full thoughts here!

LucidSound LS50X review
The LucidSound LS50X gaming headphone is a great choice for gamers who play on mobile, PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and/or Xbox Series X/S. It has excellent audio quality and tons of cool features. It’s true, the headset is designed to suit both your daily life and your gaming habits.

What’s the LucidSound® LS50X?
The LucidSound LS50X gaming headset is described as a hybrid. The headset is capable of doing a lot. It can wirelessly connect to the Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S consoles using a handy USB dongle. You can also use the included 3.5 mm audio jack cable to connect the LS50X to any other headset you wish to use.
What is the LucidSound LSM50X cost?
LucidSound LS50X retails at PS239.99. This is the highest price headset on the market. However, sometimes deals can be found that cut a few dollars off this high price. You get more than just the headset in the box. There’s also a case for transport, a USB cable to charge, a removable microphone for voice chat, a USB transmitter for Xbox consoles, a 3.5mm audio jack cable, and an instruction booklet.
LucidSound LS50X design
The box says that the LucidSound LS50X headset is ‘designed to last’. This suggests that you can use it at home as well as on the move. We are happy to report that they have fulfilled their vision most of the time.

The LucidSound LS50X may be a little too large to be comfortable on your commute (it looks like a pair of headphones that a pitch-side commentator would wear), but it isn’t enough to make us stop wanting them. Although people might say, “That guy is wearing big headphones”, you won’t look ridiculous.
The muted colors are a plus. While many gaming headsets add a little green to make them look cooler, the LS50X keeps it simple with black and grey. This helps to keep the headset from being too flashy. The LS50X also has a lot of controls that are hidden from view. We’ll talk more about this in a moment!
LucidSound LS50X features
There are many cool features in this headset, not only the fact that it can connect to almost everything but also the three connection methods: the USB dongle for Xbox consoles and the Bluetooth for mobile and computer, as well as the 3.5mm audio cable that can be used with any standard audio jack.
Another cool feature is that you can use both of these inputs simultaneously. You can connect to Xbox sounds via the dongle while listening to audio from your smartphone via Bluetooth. If you enjoy listening to more than one thing, this will be a great feature!
The volume can be adjusted at any moment by turning a well-hidden dial on the left-hand cup. While the dial on the right-hand cup allows you to adjust the game audio and chat volume, the dial on the left-hand cup is for the opposite purpose. This is a great feature that can save players some time and effort.
It is not possible to connect the headset to a PlayStation console using the 3.5mm cable. This is a shame, as it is a common feature among headsets that are more targeted at Xbox gamers. Many headsets function in this way, so most PS5 players are used to using an audio cable for headphones.
LucidSound LS50X performance

Although there are many great features, how does the headset feel? It’s important to note that the headset is extremely comfortable to wear. Even though it is a bit heavy, the padding in the headband and ear cups is just right. The overall shape of this headset ensures that it fits comfortably on your nose.
Audio quality was excellent across all devices. I didn’t experience any disconnections or crackles while playing video games, listening to audiobooks, and commuting to work. It’s also very loud, which was great for watching on the tube.
I used the headset’s dual-input feature to test it. I combined the noise from FIFA 21 using the USB dongle attached to my Xbox Series X with the sound from an Audible audiobook sent from my phone via Bluetooth. Both sounds were crystal clear. It sounded almost like Adam Buxton’s Ramble Book audiobook was intended to be in-game commentary. This is really amazing stuff, and it’s a great feature to have when you don’t have the right device.
My only problem with the headset was my inability to remember which button, dial, or hidden switch did what. There are many things you can do on the headset, but I struggled to remember them all without having to refer to the instructions. It’s easy to see why this headset is ranked at the top of the market once you get the hang of all the fiddly controls.

LucidSound
There are many ways to get your headset set up. You can connect to any device via the 3.5mm audio jack, such as a Nintendo Switch or PlayStation controller. Simply plug the cable in and the audio will be transmitted immediately. Simples!
You can set this up wirelessly by plugging the USB dongle into a slot in the console’s front. Switch on your console. Next, turn on your headset and press the power button. The two devices will sync in seconds.
This headset can also be set up with Bluetooth. Once the headset is turned on, hold the ‘Bluetooth’ button for a few seconds until the headset’s voice announces that Bluetooth pairing is complete. The headset should then be listed in your Bluetooth settings on your smartphone, tablet, laptop, or computer.
It is also easy to set up the extra boom microphone. It is easy to set up the extra boom mic. Simply take it out of its carry case and plug it into the orange port on your headset. Your device will automatically recognize it and make it your default input.
You can listen to both audios from your Xbox one and your Bluetooth device on the same device by following these instructions. It’s really simple and we had no issues with any of our setups.

Our verdict: Should the LucidSound LS50X be purchased?
This headset is a great choice for gamers who want to use their Xbox as their main gaming device while also having their audio requirements met on other platforms.
This headset is perfect for those who want to connect to their Xbox via Bluetooth to listen to podcasts or to link up with the Nintendo Switch using a cable. Even though it’s a bit bulky, it passes the “can you wear it on a train” test.
