It is important to remember this fact: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 only can support two players, unlike the initial days of split-screen, which allowed the game to support upto four people. In order to enable multi-player split screen, gamers require an additional controller, or mouse and keyboard. When players connect the extra device, they’ll have connect it to the Xbox or PlayStation profile. So, gamers can either sign in with an existing profile that is on the console, or log in using their own account.
Players are now able to start MW2 after they are in the main menu and the second player is required to hit the prompt button for joining the game (X for PlayStation A for Xbox or Space for Microsoft). The other player needs to log onto their Activision ID account or use a different profile. If they log in with their Activision ID have access to all of their weapons, field upgrade options, and loadouts that are based on their rank as a player. However, those who choose not to sign up with their Activision ID will need to use default loadouts that may not always include the best tactics or bonuses.

Split-screen multiplayer isn’t offered in every game mode. For instance gamers won’t be able play split-screen multiplayer games like Spec Ops, Free-For-All, Ground War, and Invasion. If a player attempts to play one of these modes while playing split-screen the game will notify the player that they need to disconnect.

The players can also utilize Quick Play to start a split-screen multiplayer game, however they’ll have to remove Free-For All, otherwise it won’t let them begin. Private Matches also support split-screen multiplayer. It also lets players play Free-For-All. So players who want to play the game mode can make Private Match.
